Stuart Beckerman is a partner in the Law
Office of Slater & Beckerman LLP, where he specializes
in construction permitting, zoning and land use in New York City.
Mr. Beckerman has worked on zoning map amendments in Midtown Manhattan,
Brooklyn and the Bronx; a zoning special permit for a telecommunications
tower serving the City's major airports and emergency services;
a zoning variance to permit the construction of a new Harlem office
for the Legal Aid Society; and a Landmarks Preservation Commission
permit for an advertising sign in the Gansevoort Historic District.
Mr. Beckerman previously served as Deputy Counsel to the Land Use
Division of the New York City Council and, prior to that, as Deputy
Counsel to the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals, the
City's zoning board.
Mr. Beckerman has been an active member of the Land Use Zoning
and Planning Committee of the New York City Bar Association. In
June 2006 and again in June 2007, he was Co-Chair and Speaker in a continuing legal education
seminar on the transfer of development rights. In January 2004,
he moderated a program on zoning as a tool of social and economic
reform.
Mr. Beckerman received a J.D. degree from the Cardozo School Law
of Yeshiva University and a B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
